The Vision

The Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management will provide leadership for evolving logistics and supply chain profession through the development, dissemination, and advancement of logistics and supply chain knowledge

The Mission

  • to create a forum for the exchange of concepts and best practices among logistics and supply chain professionals through networking of related institutions and professional bodies
  • to conduct research that advances knowledge and leads to enhanced value for the society
  • to create a forum for policy review, consult on government initiatives, raise private sector issues with government, and develop recommendations for both the public and private sectors
  • to encourage innovation through co-ordinating research, promoting co-operation in research, and ensuring excellence in the conduct of research
  • to develop an understanding of opportunities for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of systems for managing the movement of materials, products, and people and thereby developing, defining, understanding and enhancing the logistics process
  • to foster skills which enable the exploitation of these opportunities through research, training and consulting
  • to act as a transportation community network, and provide information by focusing attention on matters important to the transportation community, other industry sectors and the general public

Major Thrust

The centre is being established to provide national and international focal point for advanced teaching, training and research in the field of logistics and supply chain management. Major involvement of the centre will be in the development of knowledge in logistics and transportation and to be recognised as one of the leading centres for advanced research and teaching. The Centre will provide resource, which encompasses programmes for MBA students and executives, research and development capabilities, and a continuing commitment to the dissemination of ideas and knowledge through publications and symposia.

Activities

  • The Centre as part of its activities designed a Postgraduate Certificate Programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (PGCLSCM) for working executives for India and Dubai. It was launched on November 20th, 2005 in India with five batches having graduated and was launched in Dubai on February 21, 2007 with four batches having graduated. It was listed as No. 73 by Eduniversal (BestMasters.com) among the World SCM Programmes. The course structure went through changes over batches based on the feedback. This was discontinued due to partnership issues and later land was introduced as e-MDPs. Two batches of e-MDPs have been conducted and the third batch is currently on.
  • The Centre collaborated to undertake few research studies along with few US Professors from Fisher's College, Ohio University and Arkansas University to study the Indian Supply Chains and Technology adoptions in these organisations. Two papers have been published one in the Journal of Supply Chain Management (A Category as per ABDC) and another in the Transportation Journal (B Category as per ABDC)
  • As part of the prestigious Annual Publication on Global Perspectives of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) on a country, the centre was requested to prepare the Report on India about its Economic Growth, Transportation Infrastructure and Issues and Supply Chain Trends and Issues. The report was published by the CSCMP and is available at www.cscmp.org.
  • The centre has professional ties with major professional bodies like Indian Institute of Materials Management and CII Eastern Region and Association of Supply Chain Professionals (ASCP) India.
  • The centre launched its first e-MDP on Logistics and Supply Chain Management in November 2016 collaborating with Tech-Mahindra with two batches already graduated. The third batch started from February 16, 2019 with about 60 participants and is delivered through the VIL platform with collaboration with TalentEdge. The Postgraduate Certificate in Logistic and Supply Chain Management will again be launched through the VIL very soon.
  • The centre recently involved actively with other eminent SCM professionals in India in launching the India's first Professional body for supply chain professionals-Association of Supply Chain Professionals (ASCP) and actively involved in it as its National Vice President and encouraged the students of XLRI to start the first Students' Chapter of ASCP in XLRI.

The centre doesn't have any formal membership but faculty from PODS area, IS Area and Marketing area are involved in various certificate programmes and training programmes.
