Career Transformation Journey

After graduating from NIT Surat with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering a few years ago, most of my classmates went on to further for higher education or follow their chosen careers. On the other hand, I wanted to gain industry experience before deciding on a career path, so I joined L&T MHI Power Boilers Private Limited as Quality Control Engineer

My professional experiences made me familiar with changing team dynamics, employee engagement, and building leadership capabilities. I received constant appreciation from my colleagues and top management for continuously driving the team and different projects and my eagerness to learn new things, deal with challenges and come with solutions to succeed. During these five years, I learned a lot of things from my seniors and colleagues.

While working, I realized that I need to go beyond what I was doing in my job and should try to explore other areas of business, get a holistic view of the businesses and learn about different aspects of running a business in terms of strategy, finance, human resources and many more. This was when I decided to go for an MBA. Finally, in 2020, I decided it was time to take the next step in my career, so I started preparing for management exams and took the XAT. I got admission in Ex-PGDM Course at XLRI, Jamshedpur batch 2021-2022.

The reason behind choosing a one year programme over a two-year course was that the students joining this course would come from different backgrounds and industries, allowing me to have good peer learning and know more across various domains and industries.

Joining XLRI from Day 1 was about starting a journey full of learnings in terms of professional and personal development. Having gone through this MBA journey, I can confidently say that it completely transforms you as an individual, not just socially but also professionally. It has taught me to think and convey ideas with clarity, critically evaluate complex business problems, and develop innovative solutions. It has forced me to come out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to collaborate, become a competent team player and create a broad-minded approach to deal with problems.

I can undoubtedly say the learning has been multidimensional. It has opened up multiple avenues for professional growth and numerous opportunities for me to explore in my journey of professional excellence. I am sure with newly learned skills and an abundance of knowledge; I can contribute more effectively to the organization that I will work for and become the competent leader which I always aspired for.
