The session started with the inaugural speech by the Guest Speaker for the event, Ms. Preeti Mehra, Head Counselor, Career Compass Counseling Service. Ms. Mehra provided valuable insights to the students on the aspects to consider while choosing one’s career and introduced the students to different careers across streams. She emphasized the importance of properly assessing one’s strengths before choosing a career path. She also provided a host of resources for the students to explore various professions.

Majority of the participants were interested in UPSC, Defence and Computer Science Engineering. The event witnessed maximum participation in breakout rooms of Computer Science engineering. Some students also opted for Electrical and Mechanical engineering but participation in rooms for fields like Civil Engineering was minimal. “It was a wonderful session with a versatile audience”, says Prithvi, one of the Defence Volunteers. He has also extended his help & support for further information regarding career in Defence & Armed Forces. “Future Officers, hope to see you in Uniform soon”, he added.

The event has witnessed an increase in participation as compared to last year. Last year 350 students from 7 schools participated. Although the number of schools remained the same this year, participation of students increased with 493 students participating this year.

“Look at a career that gives you a purpose and serves your passion. Look at a career that gives you fulfillment and you will definitely get a growth opportunity. Know yourself better in terms of your strengths, weaknesses, interests and abilities in order to make the best career choice for yourself”, advised the Guest Speaker, Ms. Preeti Mehra, Head Counselor, Career Compass Counseling Service.

Apart from the regular lecture series, various rooms were formed for different students showing interest in various fields, ranging from UPSC and Medicine to Fashion, Music and Fine Arts. The students gained clarity on their desired career path by asking detailed questions regarding job opportunities and the path to achieve their career goals. The volunteers talked about their own experience in various career paths, preparing for various entrance exams, and even provided a few helpful tips for scoring well in the upcoming board exams.

The feedback received from the students was extremely positive as they thanked the volunteers for providing clarity on their career choices and introducing them to opportunities that they were not aware of. XLRI looks forward to working with the students and organizing more events in the future to fulfill our mission.
