XLRI Partners with MoSDE for National Entrepreneurship Awards 2019

12th August, 2019

XLRI Jamshedpur feels immense pleasure in announcing the opening of application process for the 4th National Entrepreneurship Awards, 2019, which was formerly inaugurated by cabinet minister Shri Mahendra Nath Pandey on August 8th 2019 at New Delhi.

As you may be aware that The National Entrepreneurship Awards has been instituted by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MoSDE) to recognise the efforts of micro and nano-entrepreneurs and the eco-system builders to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship across the country. A Core Committee of 12 premier institutes of the country was designated by the MoSDE to oversee the scheme implementations. Each year one of these institutes is nominated as the Lead Institute for implementing the awards, while other institutions support the program as implementing partners. Thus, when the award program was first introduced in 2016, IIT Delhi took the responsibility as lead partner followed by TISS Mumbai in the second year of the award program.

For the National Entrepreneurship Awards Scheme 2018-19, XLRI, Jamshedpur was the lead partner and it has brought several changes in identifying potential entrepreneurs and evaluating their applications through a rigorous selection process. We are happy to mention that to recognize the contribution of entrepreneurs, the Enterprise Award Track has been divided into three sub-categories:

Special Category awards (Sub-Category D) will be given to those entrepreneurs who face an unfavourable business environment for one or more reasons. They are women, SC/ST persons with disabilities and those located in remote and difficult areas.

We are happy to mention that last year the number of application increased manifold and the total no of applications received was 5760. Furthermore, in the first two editions, Eastern Indian and Northern Eastern Indian states had received very few nominations. In the year 2018, this was watershed moment in terms of no of applications received from Eastern Indian and Northern Eastern Indian states. I am also happy to mention that out of 33 prizes awarded last year 8 went to Eastern Indian and Northern Eastern Indian states. Also, about 1/3 of the awards were awarded to women or group of women. In addition to this XLRI introduced along with its partners several procedural modifications and introduced an intensive field work before shortlisting at the regional level.

IIT Madras is the lead Institute this year for the implementation of the programme and XLRI has the responsibility to mobilize applications from the state of Bihar, Jharkhand and Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. For this purpose, XLRI will work with various associations like Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the state of Bihar and Jharkhand and non-governmental organisations to reach out to as many potential investors as possible.

The eligibility criteria for the of the award remains the same as last year i.e. young First-Generation Entrepreneurs up to 40 years of age.

Further details of the awards are available online at www.neas.gov.in

The deadline for submission of applications stands 10th September 2019 on the above web address.
