Fr McGrath Memorial Debate

The Fr. McGrath Memorial Debate, sustainability and ethics-themed debate is an initiative by XLRI batch of 1985-87, in association with PEACE, a student group responsible for promoting sustainable and environmental conservation practices in XLRI.

XLRI would be conducting its first sustainability and ethics-themed debate on 14 March 2021. The Fr. McGrath Memorial Debate is an initiative by XLRI batch of 1985-87, in association with PEACE, a student group for promoting sustainable and environmental conservation practices in XLRI.

The event will host Mr. CK Venkataraman, MD, Titan Company Ltd., as the keynote speaker. He will be addressing the young leaders highlighting the importance of responsible leadership in business. Mr. Venkataraman, a postgraduate diploma holder in Management from IIM-Ahmedabad, joined Titan in 1990. After working in multiple functions, he took charge of the Jewellery Division in 2005 and held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jewellery, till 30 September 2019. Subsequently, he assumed office as Managing Director of the Company from 1 October 2019.

The debate will act as a platform to showcase one’s leadership acumen and strategical approach. It will provide an opportunity to interact with eminent industry leaders and build an understanding about sustainable leadership.

With the best talent picked from across 14 top b-schools across the country, the top 16 teams would be seen competing in the semi-finals round. From this pool, four winning teams would compete in a debate in the finals (structure similar to that of the semi-finals) adjudicated by industry stalwarts and previous debaters from XL batch of 1985-87, and professors in the field of business ethics and sustainability.
