EXECUTIVE FELLOW PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT (EXEC-FPM)

OVERVIEW

The Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) is a non-residential doctoral programme offering studies in different fields of management and functional areas. The programme has been designed to cater to the scholarly needs of working executives, managers, faculty members and researchers, who are unable to commit to a full-time residential doctoral study. The programme trains its students to become skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in management. It aims at preparing students for careers as faculty members at premier academic institutions and for positions outside academics requiring advanced research and analytical capabilities.

EQUIVALENCE WITH PH.D. OF AN INDIAN UNIVERSITY

The EFPM offered by XLRI Jamshedpur is recognized as equivalent to the Ph.D. programme of an Indian University by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

IMPORTANT

The EFPM at XLRI is an intense and rigorous study programme that typically takes about five years. Only those who are reasonably certain that they can devote enough time regularly to such a study, alongside their occupational and personal responsibilities, must apply for this programme.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the EFPM at XLRI should:

  • have an MBA / Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) or equivalent, or GMP/PGPX or One Year full-time residential programme in Management (with 60% marks).
  • be currently employed in a full-time job.
  • have at least 5 years of full-time executive/managerial/teaching/research experience as on March 31, 2024.
Not Eligible

Degree / Diploma / Certificate holders through part-time, correspondence, private appearance, or satellite-based programmes are not eligibile for applying to the EFPM.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
  • All Application Forms will be screened by a separate Screening Committee with representatives from Fellow Programme Committee and respective areas of specialization.
  • Call letters for interviews will be sent as per their recommendations.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for a personal interview during March-April 2024 at the XLRI Jamshedpur campus for the final selection. The programme will commence in June 2024.
AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION

XLRI offers nine areas of specialization:

  • Economics,
  • Finance,
  • General Management,
  • Human Resource Management,
  • Information Systems,
  • Marketing,
  • Organizational Behaviour,
  • Production Operations & Decision Sciences,
  • Strategic Management.

When applying for admission, the candidate must indicate a primary area and a secondary area of interest.

CAMPUS VISITS AND COURSE CURRICULUM

Executive FPM students will complete 11-12 courses conducted in the XLRI Jamshedpur campus, over four campus visits, spread over a period of about 2 years. Each campus visit is of about 20 days duration. Besides the campus visits, at least 3-5 additional campus visits will normally be needed. These visits are meant for the Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE), presenting a research seminar, presenting and defending the thesis proposal and for defending the thesis.

Curriculum
  • Courses on basic statistics and research methods are compulsory and common for all EFPM students.
  • EFPM students also undergo four advanced doctoral courses. These courses aim to provide teaching and research skills of an integrated nature. The four advanced courses are:
    • Advanced Research Methods (ARM)
    • Advanced Techniques in Research Methods (ATRM)
    • Academic Writing (AW)
    • Pedagogy for Management Teachers (PMT)
  • In addition to the above, EFPM students undergo four doctoral level courses offered by the different areas. Of these four, at least three must be from the student's area of specialization. The fourth course may be from the list of doctoral level electives offered by a different area. These courses aim to socialize students into the process of scholarly research and provide them opportunity to do critical review of research in their area of specialization.
  • Seminar course: Each EFPM student also undertakes a research-oriented non-classroom seminar course in the student’s field of interest, under the guidance of a faculty member in one’s area of specialization.
COMPREHENSIVE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (CQE)

At the end of the coursework, the FPM student must appear in and pass the Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE) that tests the student’s learning obtained from the coursework and their preparedness for rigorous academic research. The student is given two chances to pass the CQE, failing which s/he will be asked to withdraw from the programme.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAM

The EFPM student is expected to complete the programme in about 5 years. The maximum permissible time for the completing the programme completion is 8 years. Students failing to complete the requirements within this time period will be deemed to have withdrawn from the program and their candidature in the programme will be closed.

COURSE FEE

The total fees for the entire programme is Rs. 10,70,000/- payable in four instalments. The institute reserves the right to collect the service tax from the students in addition to the fees as applicable. The above fee does not include board and lodge charges during campus visits, which will be charged separately.

FELLOW TITLE

The student is conferred the title "Fellow in Management" of XLRI on successful completion of all the requirements of the programme.
