The Exec-PGP programme provides executives with an opportunity to earn a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management without interrupting their career. The curriculum is similar to that of the BM programme and the programme is recognized by AICTE and is equivalent to an MBA.

The participants spend about 165 days in Campus in thirty months to complete the course requirements. They are expected to do additional work as carry-home projects and assignments. The mix of participants, which includes entrepreneurs and executives from various functional areas, provides an enabling environment for learning. The Institute awards the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management to participants who successfully complete all the requirements of this programme.

Eligibility

Candidates applying for the three year Executive Postgraduate programme must hold a minimum of three years Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University in India/abroad in any discipline; should be employed in a full-time job; must have at least three years of relevant managerial experience as on March 31, 2006 in an organisation of repute in the public, private or non -governmental sector after completing graduation.

Academic Programme

The Exec-PGP is organized in 8 visits across thirty months. Participants' visit to campus may be termed as Campus Visit (CV). Participants are expected to stay on campus for about twenty days each during these visits. It is compulsory for all the participants to stay in the Hostel during the campus visit. This period is announced to the participants in advance so that they can arrange for their leave of absence from their respective organisations. During the period of their stay on campus, as the participants need to participate in intensive classroom sessions, they are required to be available full time.

No. of Campus Visits

Students complete 23 core courses spread over 5 terms. There will be 5 core courses each in the first four terms and 3 core courses in the fifth term making a total of 23 core courses. In the fifth term, there will be 2 elective courses, besides the 3 core courses.

No. of session per day

Four sessions per day will be held everyday. Each session will be of 90 minutes duration. Each course will have 15 classroom sessions of 90 minutes each. Besides there will be tutorials for about 8 hours for each course:

Session timing will be as follows:

1.09:00 hrs to 10:30 hrs

2.11:00 hrs to 12:30 hrs

3.14:30 hrs to 16:00 hrs

4.20:00 hrs to 21:30 hrs

The time between 16:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs is meant for Library work and Tutorials.

Curricula

The curriculum for the Exec-PGP consists of 41 courses including 23 core (compulsory), 16 elective courses of 3 credits each and Dissertation (compulsory) which is equivalent to two elective courses, totaling 123 credits. The course outlines, study material and assignments are given to the participants after the registration of the respective term. Participants are expected to come prepared to class with the readings given before the class and the assignments to be done after the class. While away from the campus, participants are expected to work at least 3 hours per day on the course work. With such structuring of classes, participants get a proper spread for absorbing and assimilating various conceptual inputs provided in these courses.

Courses in Different Terms

During the first five terms the students learn the basic concepts in the areas of Economics, Finance, General Management, Human Resource Management, Information Systems, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour, Production & Operations Management and Strategic Management through 23 required courses in these core disciplines. These courses help students appreciate the interdependency of the various functional areas and integrate them while addressing problems in the business context.

In the remaining terms the students take up optional (elective) courses in their respective areas of specialisation. The list of elective courses is given under the section "Core and Elective Courses" page no. 11 in the Admission Prospectus. Besides the core courses, students are expected to take sixteen electives in their areas of interest. Students choose an appropriate mix of optional (elective) courses according to their preferences. Elective courses will be offered in Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, Information Systems, Marketing, Production & Operations Management, and Strategic Management. The floating of any given elective course is dependent on the market demand, minimum number of registrations and other related factors. Emphasis is laid on applied knowledge and case discussions. Students are encouraged to undertake research studies in their field of interest as term papers.

Dissertation

Dissertation is compulsory and is in lieu of 2 elective courses. The Dissertation is intended to help students sharpen their analytical and conceptual skills and develop methodological rigors in dealing with practical problems. The student will get an opportunity to capitalize on their unique aspect of work experience through the dissertation. After the fourth term, students will be required to identify a work-related project in a specific field. They will be required to convert this into an Action Research Proposal (ARP) which will be presented before an area panel. Based on the feedback from the panel the student will finalize the proposal. A student will have to choose a member of the faculty as his/her guide for the dissertation work. Once the study is complete another presentation will be made before the area panel which will evaluate and award grade to the dissertation work. The work is expected to be of publishable quality.

Academic Evaluation System

The Institute's evaluation system is designed to continually assess the students' performance in relation to the required standards of academic achievement. Apart from examinations, a student's performance is assessed on the basis of class participation, preparation of periodic assignments, mid-term tests and surprise quizzes. As specified in the Manual of Policies, the Institute expects a minimum standard for promotion, and for the award of the Diploma. Failure to meet the minimum standards of performance at any time would require a student to discontinue from the programme.

Placement

The Institute will extent the Campus Placement facility to the participants of Exec-PGP.
