Post Graduate Programme for Certificate in Entrepreneurship Management (PGP-CEM)

Introduction

The Entrepreneur Development Centre (EDC) of XLRI, Jamshedpur has launched a 6-month Post Graduate Programme for Certificate in Entrepreneurship Management (PGP-CEM) effective from March 2010. The salient features of the programme are indicated below.

Programme Objective

PGP-CEM has been designed to provide competency-based education to the eligible candidates with a view to promoting entrepreneurship in Jharkhand and rest of the country. The programme will be pursued in such a manner as to encourage critical and lateral thinking and integrate theory with practice. The ultimate objective will be (a) to create effective and successful entrepreneurs out of those who have no exposure to this vocation, but have an inclination and desire to turn into such entities, and (b) to enhance the skills of those who are currently functioning as such.

Curriculum

The curriculum has been designed carefully in order to ensure that courses included in this programme will contain not only the usual inputs on functional areas of business like finance, marketing, strategy and human resource (HR) etc., but also fields of specific interest in the context of entrepreneurial development in India like women entrepreneurship, family business agripreneurship and social enterprises.

The curriculum consists of three different categories of courses-the ones of foundational nature, the ones which are intended to enhance the entrepreneurial skills and those which impart an integrative approach to business.

The details of the curriculum and the number of contact hours involved may be modified if and when such modification is considered necessary for making the programme operationally more efficacious.

Pedagogy

The modus operandi adopted for achieving the above objective consists of

(i) Class lectures- class lectures draw on Indian and global cases wherever necessary,
(ii) Individual and group assignments aimed at sensitizing students on handling of conceptual and operational issues related to execution of entrepreneurial ventures,
(iii) Project work based on enterprise exposure and/or otherwise.

Faculty

The courses included in the programme are conducted by XLRI’s faculty known for their research and/or hands-on professional experience in relevant areas and disciplines. Guest Lecturers from the industry/profession may be invited in certain cases to sharpen the focus of the Centre on bringing inputs from the ground to bear on the programme.

Eligibility for Admission

To be eligible to apply for admission into the programme, the candidates should

(i) be at least Graduates from any recognized University
(ii) have interest in entrepreneurship-social or commercial- even though currently not functioning as entrepreneurs
(iii) possess basic computer literacy
(iv) Although no age bar is stipulated, it is expected that the candidates applying for PGP-CEM are physically and mentally fit to go through the rigours of the programme
(v) Shortlisted applicants will be subject to a process of Personal Interview and, if necessary, Group Discussion for final selection of candidates for admission into the programme
(vi) Being called for Personal Interview and Group Discussions etc., does not necessarily entitle a candidate to admission into the programme

Reservation

In terms of an agreement entered into between XLRI and the Government of Jharkhand, 50 % of seats are reserved for students from Jharkhand.

Certification

On successful completion of the programme and based on the overall performance across courses included in the curriculum, the Certificate in Entrepreneurship Management (CEM) will be awarded by XLRI to the eligible candidates.
